Der Pate des Souls ist tot. Spätestens jetzt sollte eine oder mehrere Scheiben des Godfathers of Soul in Eurem „Plattenregal“ landen. Ich werde die Tage nach und nach einige Empfehlungen aus meinem Regal ziehen und hier kurz vorstellen.
Meine 1. Empfehlung ist „Foundations Of Funk“. Diese Doppel-CD enthält 27 Titel aus der JBs Schaffensperiode zwischen 1964 und 1969. Neben „Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag“, „Say It Loud — I’m Black and I’m Proud“ enthält das Album einige ausgedehnte Versionen, einer Neuinterpretation von „Cold Sweat“ und Live-Versionen von „Licking Stick — Licking Stick“ und „Mother Popcorn“.
